ENVIRONMENT:
A renowned South African company specializing in Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, with a focus on AI-driven solutions to boost digital productivity, workplace safety, and employee well-being, is currently in search of a Project Engineer to join their team at the Head Office located in Somerset West. The Project Engineer will take charge of assigned projects, serving as the primary liaison with clients and closely collaborating with the Project Management Office (PMO) to guarantee the successful delivery, oversight, and coordination of projects in alignment with their respective objectives and targets. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Engineering, IT, Project Management, or a relevant field.
 
DUTIES:
 Pre-project:
  • Works with Business Development to understand the detailed scope of projects to project handover meetings.
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Works with the PMO to enable them to develop a project plan.
 
Project kick-off:
  • For each project, identifies all technical and engineering client/site responsibilities.
  • Attends and drives the project kick-off meeting with the client and clearly communicates the project scope of work, solution design, technical matters, milestones and all client dependencies.
 
Project lifespan:
  • Ensure that all their projects are delivered on-time, within the scope and budget.
  • Manage project deliverables in a complex environment, including IT, production and on industrial sites for large corporate clients in South Africa and abroad.
  • Attends and drives the recurring client project progress update meetings and communicates progress, next steps/actions upcoming milestones and invoices etc.
  • Tracks and drives all the required dependencies and actions with the client.
  • Provides updates to the PMO, enable them to do project and documentation (progress reports) updates.
  • Identifies all tasks necessary from internal teams (Product design, Production, Software development, Commissioning, Model training etc) and communicates these clearly to the PMO with clarity about priority to enable the PMO to plan and prioritise these tasks with internal teams.
  • Provides technical and engineering detail to the internal teams as required.
  • Identifies suitable suppliers and subcontractors and works with these parties to ensure their services are completed as per specification.
  • Informs PMO of all upcoming invoices and provides instruction to invoice.
 
Site Visits:
  • Goes to site to provide installation location identification, installation guidance and assistance, commissioning services as required.
  • Goes to site to unblock and resolve logistical, technical and other matters as needed.
  • Follows all site and client governance requirements to get site access, approval for work and recognition/signoff of completed work.
  • Drives all on-site acceptance procedures and signoffs required for project completion and close-out.
  • Assist with client training where required.
 
Project close-out:
  • Drives project close-out and ensures all documentation completed and signed off.
  • Attends and contributes to project retrospectives.
 
General:
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.
  • Report and escalate client concerns or any project blockers to management as needed.
  • Manage the relationship with the clients and all stakeholders.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks across the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Engineering, IT, Project Management or related qualification.
 
Desired Requirements:
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience as a project engineer or project manager in an engineering and technical environment.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery as a team/individually (on time, within budget) of moderate to large/complex projects (>R1 million)
  • Experience in working with more/assist with 8 projects at a time.
  • Experience working with Project Management tools (PWA, Jira and more)
  • Experience with Hardware and Software deployment co-ordination in Project management.
  • Mining industry highly preferential.
  • Experience with Software Engineering, AI and Machine Learning project management experience would be beneficial.

  • Physically fit and able to successfully pass all medical examinations required for working on mines
