ENVIRONMENT: 
A Randburg-based independent engineering firm is hiring a Mechanical Engineer (Designer) to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone who can hit the ground running, enjoys problem solving, and thrives in a collaborative team environment. You will play a key role in designing, modeling, and developing solutions in SolidWorks, while also supporting project management activities.  They specialize in materials handling equipment and heavy steel design, with a diverse client base. Their strength lies in handling large assemblies and complex data management using SolidWorks and PDM. This position offers significant growth potential into client-facing responsibilities, project leadership, and eventually taking ownership of managing both projects and client relationships.
DUTIES:
- Create and develop detailed SolidWorks CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
 - Work with the engineering team to solve mechanical and structural design challenges.
 - Assist in setting up project requirements, scopes, and schedules.
 - Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure designs meet technical, manufacturing, and client requirements.
 - Support project management tasks including delegation, tracking, and reporting.
 - Participate in site visits, installations, and commissioning when required.
 - Contribute to continuous improvement in design workflows, CAD standards, and data management in PDM.
 - Be eager to grow into client-facing responsibilities: gathering requirements, managing projects, and leading a team.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
 - 2–4 years’ experience in mechanical design, preferably in heavy steel or materials handling.
 - Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (assemblies, sheet metal, weldments).
 - Experience with PDM or similar data management systems.
 - Exposure to structural or mechanical analysis (FEA, empirical methods) is an advantage.
 - Hands-on experience with fabricated steel structures or mining/logistics machinery is a plus.
 - Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams).
