BI Analyst (PTA)

ENVIRONMENT:

A fast-paced Tech company based in Centurion offering innovative data solutions seeks the expertise of a highly skilled BI Analyst to join its team. Your core role will be the design, development and maintenance of BI solutions. You will require Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate, BSc Degree in Computer Science / Business Analytics / Data Science / Financial Mathematics or similar, preferably completed training which includes tools: Yellowfin, QlikView or similar, SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, QlikView, Qlik Sense, Power BI, .NET, Visual Basic, Excel. This position also involves data modelling, analytics and creating visualisations and reports.

 

DUTIES:

Consult with other business users to identify current operating procedures, requirements and assist in implementing these.

Supervise, test and improve the data load processes, data integrity and data backup processes.

Conduct data analysis.

Present information through reports and visualisation.

Maintain and support data analytics platforms.

 

Database Discovery –

Discovery of new data sources and analysing relationships in new client operational databases.

Infer data relationships from business processes and vice versa.

Reverse engineering customer reports for which source code may not be available.

 

Database Development & Data Processing –

Create, maintain and enhance database structures.

Validate the data, testing for consistency and integrity, verifying data links.

Load and transform data from current raw format.

Develop database queries and reports.

Write clean, accurate and optimised SQL query scripts against a variety of databases based on client reporting requirements.

Design and write ad hoc SQL queries, stored procedures, views, triggers, cursors and functions.

Provide SQL administration support in live and test environments.

Optimise queries.

Implement solutions in various data formats.

 

Technical Modelling –

Develop basic data acquisition and capture tools in Excel.

Development of basic financial models and proof of concept models.

Test results.

Report on results.

 

Business Intelligence – Application Development –

Develop end user interactive tools on technologies such as QlikView, Qlik Sense and Power BI.

Load data into models and defining the underlying data model.

Assist in troubleshooting and debugging application issues.

Document operation of models.

Train clients on use of models.

Test and refine output.

 

Streaming Data –

Build, develop and maintain streaming data sources.

Build real-time dashboards using event stream data.

Develop, support and maintain data collection agents.

 

Data Interpretation –

Understand data contained in client databases and how this data could be used and reported on.

Evaluate data and derive sensible conclusions from the data.

Test certain business assumptions using the data available.

Assist client in deriving insights from their data.

Use and apply data-mining statistical technologies to client specific requirements.

 

Data Mining and Predictive Analytics –

Use and apply data-mining statistical technologies to client specific requirements.

Document operation.

Test and refine output.

 

Client / Industry Interaction –

Interpret client requests for changes.

Explain results of modelling in easy to understand terms.

Act as subject matter expert on the above.

Be available to provide basic user support.

 

General –

Effective at agile and deadline driven software development.

Effective users of software version control system.

Effective user of task and time management system.

Daily time logging.

Assist in writing technical procedures and documentation.

Identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes with own area of responsibility.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications –

Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate.

Successfully completed studies in one of the following Undergraduate Degree –

BSc Computer Science / Business Analytics / Data Science / Financial Mathematics or similar.

BCom / BSc Information Technology.

Preferred – Any acquired training on visualisation tools such as Yellowfin, QlikView or similar.

 

Experience/Skills –

1 – 2 Years of demonstrable experience appropriate to the task requirements for this job.

Knowledge of data architecture principles.

Complementary Mathematical / Accounting background is considered an advantage.

Knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.

Technical experience with systems networking, databases.

Knowledge of SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, QlikView, Qlik Sense and Power BI.

Background in Microsoft .NET, Visual Basic, Excel, Word, Outlook and HTML.

Working knowledge of server, data warehouse and business intelligence applications and environments.

Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures and guidelines to support operational processes.
