Risk Manager: Risk Anticipation

Cape Town – Western Cape

A dynamic Financial Services Group urgently seeks to fill the critical role of a Risk Manager whose core responsibility will be the management and monitoring of the key components of the Risk Anticipation and Cost of Risk framework. You will support the credit strategy implementation through development of policy, including monitoring and forecasting credit portfolio risk. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s in Commerce/Science/Humanities with a focus on Stat/IT/Economics/Mathematics or similar and have 5 years’ experience in Credit Risk analysis on Lending products and relational databases with being able to effectively utilize statistical software – particularly SAS as well as the strong ability to interpret data and communicate this to and influence key stakeholders.
  • Develop analytical methodology, tools, processes, and control frameworks, to assess and forecast credit risk.
  • Manage credit risk customer provisioning and liaise with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Manage all Cost of Risk budget reporting, forecasting and monitoring.
  • Forecast credit risk across portfolios, considering emerging risks and changes in external conditions.
  • Ensure reporting is aligned to shareholders requirements.
  • Take ownership on bad debt and provisioning in the accounting records.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in credit risk management in cross-functional business teams associated with new product and/or business initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with Collections Teams to facilitate alignment on key metrics, targets and support analysis of performance.
  • Ensure alignment to shareholder policies and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and ensure best practices are applied where applicable.
  • Manage team to ensure optimal performance, engagement and succession.
Qualifications –
  • A Bachelor’s qualification in Commerce, Science, or Humanities with a focus on Statistics, IT, Economics, Mathematics, or similar.
Experience/Skills –
At least 5 years’ experience in the following:
  • Credit Risk analysis on Lending products.
  • Extensive understanding of relational databases and ability to effectively utilize statistical software – particularly SAS.
Other –
  • Previous Financial services/Retail Credit experience (preferred).
  • Bad debt provisioning techniques (Advantageous).
