ENVIRONMENT:
A growing Retail Giant with a footprint on the African continent seeks a technically strong Linux Systems Engineer to join its UNIX team. You will help rollout new Linux systems and maintain, upgrade, replace and improve the long-term performance of the systems. You will also be responsible for the monitoring, maintenance and operation of the Linux based systems consisting of +- 460 SLES and Redhat Enterprise Linux VM’s running Enterprise and Open-Source Software that are key to daily business operations. You will require Matric/Grade 12 with a LPIC Certification and 3-5 years’ experience with Red Hat Linux, SUSE Enterprise Linux, MySQL, LDAP, Bind DNS Service, Apache Web Service, UNIX/Linux fundamentals & concepts; proven experience with incident response, diagnostic activities, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective Action Plans, and advanced troubleshooting and knowledge of industry security principles and server vulnerability remediation practices.
 
DUTIES:
  • Administer and support the Linux environments.
  • Build and maintain Linux server environments.
  • Assist with System Availability, Performance and Monitoring.
  • Ensure information security and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with Disaster Recovery management, procedures & documentation.
  • Perform Linux application administration and support.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential –
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • 3-5 Years Industry Certification: LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification).
  • 3-5 Years’ experience –
    • Extensive System Administration experience with Red Hat Linux and SUSE Enterprise Linux.
    • Proven history of incident response, diagnostic activities, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective Action Plans, and advanced troubleshooting.
    • RDS databases like MySQL, LDAP, Bind DNS Service, and Apache Web Service.
    • Understanding of UNIX/Linux Fundamentals and concepts.
    • Understanding of network and storage principles.
    • Knowledge of industry security principles and server vulnerability remediation practices.
 
Desirable –
  • 3-5 Years Industry Certification: RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) and SUSE CLP (SUSE Certified Linux Professional).
  • 3-5 Years IBM hardware knowledge.
  • 1-2 Years’ experience –
    • Working with virtualisation technologies.
    • Experience in documenting environment and processes.
    • Disaster Recovery Planning knowledge. 
    • Exposure to the concepts of "Cloud".
