ENVIRONMENT:
Our client, a leading global sporting retail group dedicated to providing high-quality sporting goods to enthusiasts worldwide, is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will have a Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, reside in Cape Town, and be comfortable working onsite for five days a week. Proficiency in Sage Evolution is essential. As a Junior Accountant, you will assist in day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and general bookkeeping tasks. Experience with stock management and importing of stock is required, as the role involves managing stock-related accounting processes. DUTIES:
- General Ledger Maintenance: Accurately maintain and update the general ledger by recording financial transactions using Sage Evolution accounting software.
- Stock Management: Maintain accurate records of stock levels, monitor stock movements, and ensure proper costing of stock items.
- Importing of Stock: Manage the financial aspects of stock importing, including processing invoices, coordinating payments for suppliers, and reconciling import transactions.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Assist in the preparation of invoices, processing of payments, and following up on outstanding receivables.
- Bank Reconciliations: Perform bank and credit card reconciliations on a weekly and monthly basis to ensure accurate financial records.
- Expense Tracking and Reporting: Monitor, categorize, and ensure correct recording of expenses; prepare expense reports as needed.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Payroll Support: Provide support for payroll processing by ensuring all transactions are accurately captured.
- VAT and Tax Submissions: Assist in preparing and submitting VAT returns and other tax-related documentation.
- Filing and Record-Keeping: Ensure all financial and stock records are properly filed and stored for easy retrieval and compliance.
- Assist with Audits: Support both internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and reports.
- Ad Hoc Accounting Tasks: Provide additional support to the finance team with various tasks as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-2 years of relevant accounting experience is preferred; however, recent graduates with practical experience will be considered.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Sage Evolution accounting software (mandatory), with experience in stock management and importing of stock.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of accounting principles, stock-related transactions, financial reporting, and bookkeeping practices.
