Head of Digital (Digital Marketing/Project Manager)

Cape Town – Western Cape

THE expertise of a forward-thinking Head of Digital with an entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation is sought by a fast-paced Travel Tech company in Durbanville. In collaboration with the Founders and Management team, you will help develop and implement smart, scalable strategies that spearhead growth by shaping and leading all aspects of Digital Marketing and Digital Projects. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of planning and delivering projects that achieve measurable results, is an enthusiastic and empathic team leader who excels in managing teams of people while effortlessly zoom-out for a helicopter view and eagerly dive into “devil is in the details” stuff. You must possess a Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Marketing or similar field, have 10+ years’ work experience in various aspects of Digital Marketing with at least 5+ years’ in a B2C online environment (Travel, Retail, Service, other). You also need 3+ years having worked in Marketing/Digital & Project Management and demonstrated history of effective growth / marketing strategies and executing successful digital projects.
Strategy –
  • Evaluate existing and inject new Digital Marketing strategies to accelerate growth.
  • Create the structure for your team to form effective tactics and campaigns.
  • Optimise workstreams and processes.
  • Analyse, measure and adapt tactics, campaigns and strategies.
  • Engage with the Management team and Founders when developing and adapting the growth strategy.
  • Foster a customer-centric / user-centric approach within the team.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction of these core functions: Research, UX, UI, Search, Content, Community, Social, Email, Brand, CX, Web Development, MarTech and AI.
People –
  • Grow and optimise the Digital team with a blend of permanent team members, contractors and agencies.
  • Achieve synergy with other teams (Sales, Product, People, Finance).
  • Lead your team by providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Establish clear KPIs for team members.
  • Ensure team members use SMART goals for their tasks and campaigns.
  • Establish company-wide recognition for your team’s hard work.
  • Ensure your team contributes positively to company culture.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with team members.
Projects –
  • Manage the product/projects roadmap, prioritise according to ROI, capacity, dependencies and seasonality.
  • Manage all digital projects from conception to completion.
  • Set clear and realistic deadlines.
  • Champion a PM methodology that works (whether SCRUM, Agile or traditional techniques).
  • Achieve a comfortable, consistent project momentum by leading daily stand-ups, sprints, etc.
  • Evaluate – and adapt if necessary – the tools used for project and task management (Trello, Asana, GitLab, Google Workspace, etc.).
  • Work with the senior team members to ensure all projects are adequately scoped, spec’d, resourced and briefed.
  • Oversee the QA of all projects and deliverables.
  • Report project milestones and completion to the Management team and Founders.
  • Manage budgets for all digital projects.
Qualifications –
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Marketing or related field.
Experience/Skills –
  • 10+ Years’ experience in various aspects of Digital Marketing.
  • 5+ Years in a B2C online environment (Travel, Retail, Service, other).
  • 3+ Years’ experience as Marketing Manager / Digital Manager.
  • 3+ Years as Project Manager.
  • Demonstrated history of effective growth / marketing strategies.
  • Demonstrated history executing successful digital projects.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Strong Project Management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
