ENVIRONMENT:
A leading AgriTech company with offices in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch is seeking a Head of Data who will be responsible for leading and managing the data team within the company’s Data department. This strategic role involves developing and implementing data strategies, overseeing data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and ensuring the business makes data-driven decisions to achieve its business goals. The Head of Data will play a crucial role in shaping the company’s data infrastructure, fostering innovation, and driving a culture of data excellence.
DUTIES:
Technical Leadership:
- Serve as the primary technical leader, offering guidance to team members on technology decisions, architecture, and conducting thorough code reviews.
People Management:
- Assist in conducting performance reviews of data team members, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
- Manage leave and support rotations within the data team to ensure optimal coverage and resource allocation
Roadmap and Strategy:
- Collaborate with the CTO to manage the technology roadmap for their data infrastructure, processes and long term goals.
Project Management:
- Provide guidance to product data team members and other stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation cycles of data related deliverables and initiatives.
Employee Development and Well-being:
- Provide career guidance, mentorship, and perform one-on-one sessions with team members.
- Report back to the CTO on employee well-being, performance, and potential risks.
Travel and Office ce Presence:
- Willingness to travel approximately every three months between Cape Town and Johannesburg offices.
- Be present in the Jhb or Cpt office every day or at least roughly three times a week, ensuring effective collaboration and support.
REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Qualifications:
- A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Knowledge, Competencies and Skills:
- Expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to align data initiatives with business goals.
