A fast-moving, innovative investment company seeks a highly talented Product Owner to play a key role in data analysis, business requirements analysis and product process management within the software delivery function of the team. You will require a Computer Science/Engineering/Business Science Degree or background or other relevant tertiary qualification, experience working on digital or mobile solutions, including working with the design team, i.e. UX and UI and People Management experience. Any experience having worked with development teams operating in a modern frontend architecture or software development teams will prove beneficial.
Primary link between the client business unit and the development team.
Inform business solution design based on understanding technical constraints and opportunities.
Responsible for facilitating the development of the technical solution design that best meets the business requirement:
Ensure rigorous business analysis has been completed.
Help the development team to design the appropriate technical implementation.
Provide the UX/UI team with input on design.
Develop and facilitate an effective ‘product process’ to ensure that the product evolves to meet target client needs and aligns with overall service model.
Prioritise and manage the 6-month product backlog, including seeking opportunities to address technical debt.
Any background/ Degree in an analytical, quantitative field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Business Science or similar.
Although no formal qualification in a technology field is required, successful candidates will have a strong interest in technology generally and financial services specifically.
Candidates should demonstrate a track record of achievement in the top 25% of their peer group.
Alternatively, experience working in highly analytical or problem-solving teams would suffice.
Experience in working on digital or mobile solutions, including working with the design team, i.e. UX and UI.
People Management experience.
Experience working with software development teams and managing complex software projects.
Superior problem-solving through applying analytical and critical thinking skills – The PO is expected to first-and-foremost be a problem-solver and facilitate meeting clients’ needs through the innovative application of technology.
Superior process design and facilitation skills – Successful POs are expected to be able to implement Agile product development processes relevant to their product and that takes into account the unique technology and business context of the company’s business. Successful POs will identify who their business stakeholders are and what their role should be in the product process so that we deliver to clients a product and service that is aligned to the company’s business model.
Superior Communication Skills – The successful PO needs to be able to communicate the business requirement to their development team, as well as the technical opportunities and constraints to their business stakeholders so that the team delivers value to its client/ user.
“Nose for value” – The successful PO will be able to make ongoing trade-offs between being responsive to changing client needs and behaviour, satisfying business need for speed to market and building technically-robust and flexible solutions so that long-term business value is delivered.
