IT Asset Controller

A leading investment group seeks a meticulous and proactive IT Asset Controller whose core role will be oversight of the administrative aspects of the IT team. This will include software license management, but also hardware asset management (including procurement), budgeting and reporting. The ideal candidate requires a BComm/Accounting Degree, 4+ years’ experience working at an audit firm, strong understanding of the procurement lifecycle – approvals, orders, invoicing, accounting, strong Excel, understanding of software licensing methods (perpetual, subscription, etc.). Any experience with software asset management systems like Flexera or ServiceNow & hardware and software procurement will prove beneficial.



Software –

Utilise tools such as SCCM and ServiceNow, track usage of all software in the organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant software license agreements.

Assist in procurement of additional software licenses from vendors as required.

Analyse cost/benefit of various license models.

Work with IT Heads in preparation of software budgets for their respective areas.

Assist with allocation/coding of SW invoices for Finance.

Ensure that the business remains compliant with all software license agreements.


Hardware –

Utilise tools such as SCCM and ServiceNow, track usage of all hardware in the organisation, ensuring that assets are properly accounted for at all times.

Assist IT Head(s) with checks and reconciliations of hardware orders, invoices and allocations.

Work with Head of IT Infrastructure and other team members to prepare HW budgets.

Assist with coding of hardware invoices for Finance.


General –

Help in preparation of monthly reports for IT, especially financial sections.

Assist with any questions about software and hardware costs.

Assist IT Management Team with any other IT Financial administration tasks as required from time to time.



Qualifications –

B Comm / Accounting Degree.


Experience/Skills –

4+ Years of experience working at audit firm.

Strong understanding of procurement lifecycle (approvals, orders, invoicing, accounting).

Very strong Excel skills required, with experience of software asset management systems like Flexera or ServiceNow beneficial.

Experience in hardware and software procurement highly desirable.

IT Financial Management experience desirable.

Good understanding of software licensing methods (perpetual, subscription, etc.), the pros and cons of each, and how to account for it.

Some experience in dealing with vendors and negotiation contracts.



Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Organised, able to multi-task; work to tight deadlines and able to cope under pressure.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written.

Able to work independently or as part of a team.

Ability to present financial and other data in a logical and clear manner.

Able to trouble-shoot and problem solve using own initiative.

Highly numerate.

Confident and able to communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation.
