An innovative cash risk management firm in Joburg seeks the expertise of a Head of BI to be responsible for the development of the BI strategy, manage the delivery of BI projects and ensure systems and BI requirements are aligned. You must possess an IT Degree, 8 years BI/MI analysis, design, development and testing experience including technical knowledge of BI systems, relational data bases, data warehouse / marts, ETL tools and data modelling.



Develop BI Strategy –

Manage JAD sessions and interviews to define user requirements and BI systems design.

Understand the current functionality of SBV’s BI systems and ensuring these are leveraged into the wider business.

Identify opportunities for the application of BI.

Align the various BU strategies with the BI strategy and delivery plan.

Monitor industry and staying abreast with BI developments.


Drive effective Customer Relationship Management –

Liaise with various stakeholders, inter alia, StratCo, BU’s, ICT Systems Owners, Industry Bodies (e.g., PASA, SARB, Bankserv), Customers (e.g., Banks and Retailers) and other interests.

Encourage customer satisfaction and understanding regarding the strategic alignment as well as practical implementation of any BI initiatives.

Develop an in-depth knowledge of the industry and business to ensure optimal BI solutions.


Delivery of BI Programme –

Develop the BI Programme and align to the BI Strategy and BU requirements.

Deliver the infrastructure to support BI requirements.

Manage all phases of the BI Initiatives – concept to delivery to support.

Manage resources requirements to deliver the BI Programme.


BI Systems Development –

Oversee that user specifications are met through the development and delivery of working programs to quality standard and without critical bugs.

Verify quality and accuracy of BI reports.

Apply security principles to all design and development work performed.

Apply version control to all development and associated documentation.

Confirm that supporting documentation is in place.


BI Systems Support –

Monitor and manage all aspects of BI systems, including performance, integration and sizing.

Deliver on small enhancements and ad-hoc report requirements.

Provide systems support on all BI systems.

Perform regular maintenance of the BI systems.

Follow Technology governance for Service Request, Incident Management and Change management.


Systems Architecture –

Develop an Architecture methodology.

Establish and maintain and Enterprise Architecture Framework.

Align Architectural Blueprint with the business strategy, programme plan & industry changes and innovations.

Provide guidance and recommendations to the Project Board regarding the proposed sequencing of initiatives and programmes.


Manage the performance of BI team (including contractors) within the HR policy and practices –

Staff the BI function in alignment with ICT budget and business requirements.

Mentor, coach and motivate team members.

Development of team members.

Comply with HR staffing policy and strategy.

Identify training requirements with individuals in team and assist the resources complete Personal Development Plans and attend the identified interventions.


Compliance –

Adhere to and comply with all internal audit and risk policies and procedures.



Qualifications –

IT Degree.


Experience/Skills –

8 years BI/MI analysis, design, development and testing experience of which:

Experience in the service and/or financial industry.

Expert knowledge of software development lifecycle.

Technical knowledge of BI systems, relational data bases, data warehouse / marts, ETL tools and data modelling.

Formal BI methodology experience.

Expert knowledge of BI tools and techniques:

Technical knowledge of Microsoft Reporting Services.

Data Base design and Data Modelling experience.
