If crafting quality applications and working on custom-designed devices excites you, then a rapidly growing retail analytics tech company in Joburg wants you as their next Android Developer. Your primary focus will be developing Android applications and their integration with back-end services. You must have a BSc Computer Science Degree or equivalent, able to design apps around natural user interfaces such as “touch” and skills including: Android SDK, Android UI, Open-source Android ecosystem, Cloud Message APIs, RESTful APIs & Version tools such as Git.



Translate designs and wireframes into high quality code.

Design, build, and maintain high performance, reusable, and reliable Java code.

Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application.

Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.

Help maintain code quality, organisation, and automatisation.

Work along-side other engineers and developers working on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, dedication to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and crafting quality products is important.

Constantly be learning.



Qualifications –

BSc Computer Science or equivalent.


Experience/Skills –

Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.

Able to design applications around natural user interfaces, such as “touch”.

Able to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.

A knack for benchmarking and optimisation.


Strong knowledge of:

Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.

Android UI design principles, patterns, and standard methodologies.

Open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.

Cloud Message APIs and push notifications.

Google’s Android design principles and interface guidelines.


Familiar with:

RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.

The use of additional sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers.

Code Versioning tools, such as Git.

Continuous Integration.
